Vitiligo is a common condition that causes lightening of the skin or loss of pigment. It can affect several parts of the skin such as hands, face or wrists. This condition occurs if melanin producing cells die or fail to function. The real cause of Vitiligo has not yet been determined, but it is believed to be genetic or due to viral infections. There are various symptoms of Vitiligo. The affected person develops patches on the extremities, for example on the hand fingers. Such patches enlarge with time and eventually change shape. Lesions are also common around the affected areas.
